PPS Synchronization for Multibeam Echo Sounders

PPS or 1PPS means “pulse per second” and a PPS source is just a device which provides a high precision signal each second so that an application can use it to adjust system clock time. GPS and GNSS receivers are a source of a PPS synchronization signal, which is used to precisely time stamp data in hydrographic surveying. Occasionally, the PPS synchronization signal needs to simultaneously fed to two different devices – for example an acquisition computer and multibeam echo sounder. In this case, a high quality splitter may be used to ensure the timing hardware is reliable.
